Feels Like An Eternity is born from a place of spiritual defiance and reclamation. It is inspired by the connection between Eternity and Queer Utopia, two imagined spaces where longing can finally be fulfilled yet is always just out of reach. For queer people, longing is not just a feeling, but an integral part of our existence. It is cemented through a history of displacement and a search for belonging. We are told these transcendent sites of connection and community will never be within our grasp. This work is a rejection of that exile.
Within this work, I create a new lexicon of spiritual symbols and stories. I layer this with fragments from gay erotic magazines to create a new language of devotion. Through my process, I transform this sensual imagery that has historically been used as both a source of and alleviation from longing.
The gallery becomes a queer sanctuary where the very acts of desire and touch become the ways we connect with the divine. This work reminds us that eternity arrives in fleeting moments of solace where desire dissolves into presence. Here, queer fulfilment becomes the gateway to salvation, a place where our identity is not exiled from the sacred but the very site where it resides.
